Healthcare for our family has been interesting over the last four years. Each year our premiums have increased dramatically while deductibles simultaneously skyrocketed. For a few years, the plan we had was no longer even available the following year.
So let’s make lemons out of lemonade and turn this into a friendly competition.
The competition is to guess our family’s monthly premium percentage increase from 2017 to 2018 for the same plan. Closest guess, whether over or under, wins!
In 2017, our monthly premium for a “Bronze” plan was ~$1,200. The individual deductible in 2017 was $7,150 and $14,300 for the family (2 adults and 3 children).
The winner will receive their choice of the following:
- $25 gift card (as long as it can be purchased online)
- $25 worth of gold* (if you have GoldMoney account)
- $25 worth of Bitcoin* (if you have a Bitcoin wallet).
Your guesses must be posted in reply to the relevant post on my Melotte Financial Advisors Facebook page or on Twitter using the hashtag #GuessKensPremiumIncrease. Each individual gets only one guess. I will announce the winner on my birthday, November 17th!
I will also share you what I find out as I research creative solutions around this expensive mess…if there are any.
Another $25 (same choices as above) will be awarded to one person who either retweets the relevant Tweet or shares the post from my Facebook page! One entry for retweet and one entry for Facebook share per person…winner will be drawn at random on November 17th.

Contest runs from November 6th through midnight on November 16th.
Must be over 18 and a U.S. citizen to participate.
2 ways to win: (1) The participant who gets closest to our actual premium increase from 2017 to 2018 wins. (2) Anyone who shares the Facebook post or Retweets will get entered into a drawing and chosen at random. A name will be placed into a container and a blind selection will be made on November 17th.
Only one guess per individual and 2 entries for the random drawing (1 for a Facebook share and 1 for a Twitter retweet).
Winners name will be used in an email on November 17th as well as listed on the Melotte Financial Advisors’ website in the Blog section. Winner will also be announced on social media.
California residents excluded.
